May 31 is the Day of Remembrance of Victims of Political Repression in Kazakhstan. One of the most tragic and terrible periods, which brought mass repression, persecution and exile, hunger and deprivation to millions of people throughout the post-Soviet space.
The main and most inhumane mechanism of repression in those ruthless years was the sending of convicts to correctional labor camps. Karlag, Steplag, ALGERIA – these are the largest camps of the GULAG structure that were located on the territory of our country. One of the most famous is located near the city of Nur-Sultan – Akmola camp of wives of “traitors”. Every year, the delegation of the Medical and Technical College visited the now Museum and Memorial Complex “ALGIERS”, because every page of the past is dear to us, the current generation.
